Rick Reeves, Preaching Pastor

Spouse/Kids:  Ali and I have been married for seven years and our two daughters are Joey (4) and Brooks (2).

Testimony:  I started following Jesus when I was 23 years old.  I literally woke up one morning and said, "Okay God I'm going to try you out, so please help me."  That was not quite the “sinner’s prayer” you will find on your evangelism track.  I started attending Roseburg Christian Fellowship and a few months later my mom and I were baptized together in the Umpqua River.  I don't remember the exact date my heart was awakened to the gospel.  I didn't write it in a book, carve it on a tree, or change my FB status to Christian, but it wasn't until I moved to Reno in 2007 to chase a career in mixed martial arts (MMA) that my heart was gripped by the gospel.  I attended a church called Living Stones, which was passionate about declaring the gospel.  Shortly after, my desire for MMA faded and my new desire was to preach the gospel and plant a church back in Oregon.  In February of 2015 the six year training and preparation process came to an end and Living Stones sent our family to plant Gospel Community Church.

Evidences of Grace:  The biggest evidence of grace in my life was moving to Reno.  I hated Reno and I know hate is a strong word but dislike falls short.  I wanted so bad to get out of there but at the same time felt like God was calling me to settle in. I was thinking a year but God was thinking more like eight.  I wouldn't exchange those eight years for anything.  It was there I grew in a deeper understanding of the gospel, understood the importance of community, met my wife, had our first child, was equipped for ministry, was challenged to face my past, and grew to understand the importance of transparency.

Favorite Book(s): The book that's had the biggest impact on me is probably Gospel Wakefulness or Jesus Plus Nothing=Everything but my favorite is probably The Prodigal God.  I'm currently reading Saturate and Leading with Love.

Favorite Movie: My favorite movie and probably the movie I quote the most is, Dumb and Dumber and my favorite quote from it would be, "but what if they shot you in the face?"

Hobbies/Interests: My hobbies or what I enjoy the most are dates and mini vacations with my wife, spending time with my family, and hunting.  Since God gave me girls, I'm hoping one of them takes up my passion for hunting since I've taking up their passions for dance parties, playing kitchen, and grocery store checkout.  I think if you saw me doing ballet with them you would agree that it's a fair tradeoff.

Obscure Facts/Secrets: I share this with a lot of reservation but my nick names throughout my life have been "Big Dog," "Bubs," and "RICKY!!!" if I was in trouble. My fight nick names were "The Holy Terror," and "Pretty Ricky."  For the record, I had no say in any of these!

I want my GCC family to know:  My greatest passion is the gospel and my heart’s desire is to preach and share the gospel with as many people as I can with the time God gives me.  I love our church family and have been blown away by what God has done at GCC and look forward to what he has in store.

Caleb Rexius, Worship Director

Spouse/kids:  Betsie and I have been married for 12 years.  Our son Eli is 5 and our daughter Mercy is 2.

Testimony:   I was fortunate to grow up in a home with parents who loved the Lord. I accepted Jesus at a young age and every year I try to grow in faith, maturity, and wisdom, and ultimately growing closer to God.  I am so thankful for a legacy of Christ followers that started with my grandparents and great grandparents following Jesus. God uses stories of radical transformation to impact his people and reveal his goodness and grace, but he also uses stories of like mine that may not have the cinematic storytelling flare, but has God as the foundation.

Evidences of Grace: I had to chase my wife for many, many years.  Thank the Lord God, He ultimately brought us back together and has given us 12 years together and 2 kids.

Favorite Book(s): Disciplines of a Godly Man.

Favorite Movie:  The Lion King

Hobbies/Interests: I am a filmmaker by trade, and I love creating videos.  I love riding bikes with my son and jumping in the river on hot summer days.

Obscure facts/secrets: I can spin things on my finger - plates, pillows, computers, iPads, books, balls, boxes.  I think I have some circus talent in my blood.

I want my GCC family to know:  I am thankful to be a part of this ministry and serve in whatever way God wants for me.

Ronny Gogan, Discipleship Ministry

Spouse/Kids: Nichole and I have been married for years.  Our daughter, Evenaeline is 2, and our son Miles will be born any day (as of February 22, 2018).

Testimony: I did not grow up in a Christian home, and was raised by my father. I think I went to Catholic Mass once and pretty much understood religion to be something that is not very important or essential. I would even make fun of my Christian friends when they tried to play their lame Christian music in my car. God pulled the blinders off of my eyes around my sophomore year of college and I have been stumbling my way through this thing called the Christian life ever since. He has given me completely new desires and I wish I would have been walking with Him sooner. My biggest prayer is that my kids would never have to go as long as I did without Him in their lives. My favorite verse is Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” God isn’t looking for people to clean up their lives before He calls them to be a part of His family, we have been reconciled to Him now, not five or ten years from now when we have our act together.

Evidences of Grace:  It is an evidence of grace that Nichole and I have been together as long as we have. We both come from divorced parents (my father is currently working on his sixth marriage). I also spent my childhood and teenage years preparing myself for divorce as I would move from one girlfriend to the next. Understanding love through the lens of the Gospel has given me a whole new understanding as to the purpose of marriage.

Favorite Book(s): All-time favorite book, outside the Bible of course, is C.S. Lewis’ The Great Divorce. My reading list right now is mostly work for Seminary or the Cohort I am currently attending, but I am trying to make my way through R.C. Sproul’s The Holiness of God again.

Favorite movie: Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. As far as best quotes, this movie has too many. Pretty much anything that Emperor Palpatine says during the movie is unforgettable. “I am the Senate!”

Hobbies/interests: I know, not very productive: Video games. The Final Fantasy series games are my favorite.

Obscure facts/secrets: If there’s anything most people in the church would think is weird about me, it would definitely be my taste in music. My wife does not approve of the punk rock, but I like the in-your- face rebelliousness of that genre. With that being said though, there is nothing more rebellious in this world than to be a Christian. It’s as Alice Cooper says, “Sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll is easy. True Christianity…that’s rebellion.”

I want my GCC family to know:  All the things I enjoy about this world (whether it is my family, a good book or video game, and even an epic song from one of my favorite bands) pales in comparison to the God whom I worship and adore. You and I will miss nothing of this world if we have Christ, because in Christ we have it all.

Brian Wakefield, Discipleship Ministry

Spouse/Kids: I married my best friend Amy Wakefield 5 years ago and today we are blessed to have 2 children, Holden who just turned 3 years old and Harper who is now 2 months old!

Testimony: I’m the son of a pastor who taught me at the earliest of days the importance of life’s truest purpose: being born again and living for Jesus! It only took me a few years before I learned that I wanted a relationship with Christ, but it’s takin me a lifetime to learn how to follow Him day by day.  I’m thankful for Jesus’ call on my life and the process of His sanctifying power.

Evidence of Grace:  In my life, I’ve moved 22 times, relationships have come and gone; Jesus truly is my rock and my hope!

Favorite Movie: Here Comes The Boom with Kevin James.

Hobbies/Interests: I really enjoy spending time in the great outdoors with my family and friends. Amy and I frequently hit up hikes up in the Cascade Mountains. Broken Top is by far our favorite. I’ve been known to shoot before passing.  Basketball has been a great way to expend some much excess energy and tickles my inner competitiveness. Running Mount Pisgah is my weekly challenge to stay in shape.

Obscure Facts/Secrets: I struggle to complete full sentences before I’ve consumed my black 12-ounce quad Americano. My favorite place to eat: Sabai (the best Thai Food). I recommend the Red Curry.

I want my GCC family to know:  GCC has been a much needed church family. Rick’s passion for preaching the Good News of the gospel wrecks me each and every Sunday. I’m truly thankful to be a part of this awesome community.
